HEALTH SERVICES
Dentist - student who is thinking of dental school has opportunity to work with local alum at her general practice.
Dutchess County Health Department - Intern can work on projects relating to communicable diseases or other public health issues such as smoking.
Hospice - Provides support services and friendship for terminally ill patients. Interns will assist with fundraising, research projects, and editing newsletter and educational materials.
Hospitals - The following have opportunities available in various departments: St. Francis Hospital and Health Centers, Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Placements are also available in social services and patient services units of these hospitals.
Parkinson Foundation - Work with support group for people with Parkinson disease.
Hudson River Community Healthcare - Work as a translator with doctors treating Spanish-speaking parents or work as a translator on a mobile medical unit, especially doing AIDS education in Spanish-speaking neighborhoods.
Podiatrist - Person who wishes to explore this field has opportunity to observe a local general practice.
St. Francis Hospital Sleep Laboratory - Assist with this research and service section of the hospital. This is a sleep lab that will give you hands on training. Hours are as follows: one night for three hours, one afternoon for three hours and an additional three hour time period to be determined individually. One unit of credit is necessary.
Veterinarians - Opportunities exist to work with either large or small animals.
