Since field work is an academic program, you will be working under the supervision of a faculty member. Before asking a faculty member to sponsor you, you should have thought about what you hope to learn from the placement and how field work relates to your academic studies.
Before we make an appointment for you at the placement of your choice, you must have your registration or drop/add slip signed by your faculty advisor and the faculty member who is supervising your field work. The Field Work Office must then sign in order for your registration to be complete.
1. Completion of internship proposal
More detailed instructions for completing it will be given to you before your interview.
2. Academic requirements
Set by your faculty supervisor. These may include any or all of the following:
A journal, assigned readings, periodic oral reports, a paper.
3. Hourly requirements
Four hours per week for ten weeks for half unit
Eight hours per week for ten weeks for one unit
4. In addition, the Field Work Office requests the following:
Attendance at an orientation meeting
Return of questionnaire about your placement.
If you have a car, that's fine. Students who provide their own transportation should check with Ann Boll regarding the field work reimbursement policy. There are several cars which are available for your use. For car scheduling, you should check with Alice O'Keefe. Students are expected to pay partial cost for transportation provided by the Field Work Office.
The name of the director or supervisor of the agency will be given to you when an appointment is made for an interview.
If after your interview or even after you have worked at your assignment for a short time you find you are having problems of any kind, please come and talk with us. DO NOT STOP GOING WITHOUT LETTING US KNOW.
Dropping Field Work: To drop field work or change the amount of elected credit requires filing a drop/add slip and immediate notification to our office. You need the signatures of your advisor and field work.
If for any reason you are unable to get to your agency at your scheduled time, please notify them so they will not be expecting you.
