MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS
Art Times, Saugerties - Regional magazine in a newspaper format which focuses on cultural events and news and includes creative writing. Intern would be involved with all phases of producing this journal (proofreading, checking and gathering information, fielding inquiries). Excellent chance to learn firsthand about production of small publication. Car needed.
Central Hudson - Corporate communications. Intern will be assigned one or two stories a week for a weekly newsletter. Opportunity also to do some photography and to assist with layout, design, and production. Intern must have excellent writing skills; previous experience in journalism useful. Open to juniors and seniors - 15 hours per week.
Children's Media Project - Exhibitions Assistant, teacher assistant and web master development assistant.
Clear Channel of the Hudson Valley - WJJB, WHVW, WEOK, WKIP, WCSX, NEXT-FM - Students needed to work in local radio stations rewriting AP and UPI wire reports and doing stories on community events, marketing and programming.
Culinary Institute of America - Placements in administrative offices. Students with writing, photographic, or graphic skills can work in publications office or in their well-equipped media department which includes photography and TV studio.
Filmmaker - Local filmmaker occasionally accepts interns.
Hudson Valley Magazine - Monthly magazine located in Poughkeepsie. Intern will update calendar, maintain editorial files. Art intern will prepare advertising materials; assist with paste-up and layout and other tasks as needed (filing; photo returns, etc.).
Millbrook Round Table, Taconic Newspapers, Southern Dutchess News - Research and write stories for regional weekly newspapers.
Poughkeepsie Beat - Weekly publication devoted to local stories.
Poughkeepsie Journal - The local daily newspaper. Students work as interns for editors, sometimes writing articles for publication. Resume required. Applications due at end of preceding semester. Deputy business editor would like an intern with a background in economics and good writing skills to assist with research and preparation of articles. One credit only.
Poughkeepsie Pride - Write articles and conduct interviews for newsletter for Poughkeepsie School District.
RNNTV, Kingston - Cable company has positions in operations graphics, production and research. Must be able to commit at least 16-20 hours. Car needed.
Time Warner Cablevision - A few openings for students interested in working in local TV. Scheduling is flexible but must work a minimum of 8 hours a week.
Upstate Films - Interns can assist with promotion, creation of lobby notes for certain films as well as learn about programming.
